Obedience classes

Pet Obedience is for puppies/dogs over six months old and is a progression from Playschool where the dogs continue their education by refining their skills and learning to do all the things they did before but with many more distractions. They also start to learn about waiting and staying skills. We continue in this class to have Play and Recall away from play sessions, and continue with our problem sessions where we will advise on any problems you may be having with your dog.

During these sessions teaching would include-

Stopping bad behaviours- How to stop your dog biting or mouthing, and/or jumping up at you and your family, and or other people

Sitting- Teaching your dog to sit and keep sitting around 20 – 30 seconds until told to get up.

Lie Down-To lie down and stay lying for about 20-30 seconds at least..

Heeling-To Walk nicely on a loose lead at the side of you.

Recall- To come back to you first call, (whatever distractions are around, such as other dogs, etc) when you take them out for a walk and let them off lead in the park, woods etc.

Play - How to make play an enriching and pleasurable experience for you and your dog

We discuss and give solutions to help you deal with any problems that are occurring with your dog.

At this level all the dogs are working simultaneously, and they have to learn to listen to you, and do what they are asked, even with all the hubble and bubble of the other stuff, of dogs and handlers going on around them…… much like normal life in the park or woods etc.

If you are planning to come straight into this class without progression through the puppy class, we like to start the dogs off with an individual one to one half hour induction session first, as this makes the training methods used much easier to comprehend and you can also discuss any problems you feel are particular to your dog. You and your dog then join in for five consecutive sessions with the other dogs in the group class.

The individual session would be at any time to suit and then you would start in the group obedience training classes the following week, which are at various times and days.
You can start this as soon as you want.

At the moment, we have “rolling” classes on Wednesdays at 10.00 am, and Saturdays at 10.00am.

You will hopefully earn either your Foundation Level Certificate or your Good Citizen Level Certificate by the end of the course.

Progression Obedience is for dogs that have done a fair bit of obedience either with us or with other schools/clubs where we continue to challenge and educate the dogs even more. As you and your dog progress in your training, we offer classes where you can work towards Scrambles Good Canine Citizen award followed by Bronze, Silver, Gold and Platinum should you wish.
